Glazing Bead Installation and Removal

Glazing Bead Installation & Removal

Document includes glazing bead installation instructions for polymer windows (assembling and disassembling).

GLAZING BEAD INSTALLATION FOR POLYMER WINDOWS

  1. Assembling Glazing Beads with 90º Angled Inner Foot
  1. Make a miter cut on the glazing beads and a counter cut at the foot. No additional milling is needed.

  1.  Place glazing blocks and shims and install IG unit tight to exterior gasket. Glazing shims should be installed only by hand.

  1.  Install shorter glazing beads first. Insert corners first by tapping the glazing bead with a soft rubber hammer/mallet to safely drive the rest of the bead into place.

  1. Install longer glazing beads next. Insert corners first by tapping the glazing bead with a soft rubber hammer/mallet to safely drive the rest of the bead into place.

  1. For glazing beads 16”–24” long, make a V-shaped cut for easier installation.

  1. For glazing beads shorter than 16”, install glazing beads in sequence. Cut inner foot of last glazing bead so it can be pushed in.

      2. Disassembling Glazing Beads

  1. Use a putty knife or painters tool to remove glazing bead. Start in the middle of the longest side. With fingers, push glazing bead up to make a wider gap. Insert putty knife or painters tool in the groove and push it downwards.

  1. Repeat the same for the other glazing beads, or pull remaining glazing from the edge using a hook.
